Will Car Rentals Save Chrysler, The Big Three?

Next time you’re driving a Chrysler Sebring from Hertz rental you may be helping out America’s automotive industry. Recent reports suggest that car rental companies, through the ordering of new models for customers, may help car production in this country.

According to a recent Bloomberg report, “Rental-car companies such as Hertz Global Holdings Inc. and Dollar Thrifty have been keeping vehicles longer,” but “Hertz bought 16,000 new vehicles during the six weeks before June 25 as demand for car rentals rose.” The company will keep acquiring new vehicles and shifting out older ones, he said.

Auto makers don’t only offer new car incentives for regular customers, rates on new cars for fleets are also available at a lower price. And raising prices for used cars also gives fleet operators an incentive to give up older vehicles and buy new ones.
