The lien is against the Press’s home in Birmingham. The filing said the unpaid balance is for the tax period ending Dec. 31, 2007. He left Toyota and joined Chrysler in 2007 as a copresident shortly after Cerberus Capital Management took majority ownership of the Auburn Hills automaker. Chrysler never disclosed the value of Press’ compensation package but Business Week, in 2007, reported that it was worth at least $50 million. – freep.com

The hybrid craze has been taking the world by surprise in the past couple of years. With increased awareness of environmental issues, consumers are in search of “greener” ways of going about their driving. The new CAFÉ laws are now forcing carmakers to raise fuel economy levels to 35mpg by 2020. The various automakers in the market are trying to please their customers and the new standards with their gas/electric hybrids, promises of fuel-cell technology, fuel-saving technologies and everything else a world of increasing technology can bring.

In an interview with Popular Mechanics in the tail end up February, the new Chrysler president Jim Press talked about the company’s direction. While talking about the Chrysler product future Press said, “every vehicle that Chrysler makes would be hybrid-powered.” They plan to “shrink to survive” by eliminating up to a third of the vehicle line-up. This will allow more focus on the design, fuel economy and more of the remaining models.

Chrysler plans to use their new engineering division that they named ENVI to focus on these new hybrid options’ development. Press ensured the folks at Popular Mechanics that he completely plans to go through with this hybrid plan and consumers will see it begin to take effect in the coming years. There is no set in stone timeline at this point.
