Keeping in line with their “Imported from Detroit” slogan, Chrysler will produce the next Viper in The Motor City. The Conner Assembly Plant in Detroit will reopen to produce 2013′s SRT Viper, creating nearly 150 jobs. Production begins next year, with Vipers coming off the line by late 2012.

“The next generation Viper will make its return to the product lineup in late 2012 as a 2013 model,” said Ralph Gilles, President and Chief Executive Officer – SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC.

Prior to its reopening, the Conner facility will transform by implementing a system called World Class Manufacturing (WCM) – which focuses on reducing waste, while making improvements throughout the construction process that increase quality and productivity.

The Conner facility idled in July 2010, when production of the original Viper ended.

From Motor Authority: The Chrysler go-fast division [Street and Racing Technology division - SRT] has built some memorable cars in the past, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, one of the fastest SUVs in the world, as well as a string of high-performance Dodge Viper supercars, and now there’s this very special Chrysler 300 SRT10.

Yes, you read that correctly. The SRT10 badge on the rear of this Chrysler 300 implies that there is a V-10 powerplant lurking under its hood. While the teaser video doesn’t reveal much, the fact that it was posted on the official Dodge blog, Red Letter Dodge, suggests that this could be heading for production in some way, shape or form.

The next generation 2012 Chrysler 300 is just around the corner so we wouldn’t be surprised to see a special Chrysler 300 SRT10 run-out model launched as a last hurrah to see out the end of the current generation.

Looks as though the death of Viper is (again) very exaggerated. Chrysler’s selling of Dodge Viper perked the ears of many V-philes, along with some of the top performance enhanced engine producers around – Roush Performance and Saleen. Saleen is already part of Viper-production – they paint the vehicles after assembly.

Chrysler also states they have other interested parties both in the United States and UK. Chrysler President Jim Press believes there are countless possibilities for potential Viper purchasers, although he may be more concerned with the potential amount of money his struggling company can make off this sale. Chrysler Dodge Jeep could take in anywhere between $50 million and $150 million by the end of Viper’s 2011 run.
