What happens when the Number One and Number Three auto makers in the United States are struggling through some of the hardest financial times this nation has seen? Simple, they merge or one buys the other out. General Motors has spent the last month secretly (though, not so secret as of late) discussing a merger between their company and Chrysler Dodge Jeep owner Cerberus. If the deal were to pass it would form one of the largest car manufacturers in the world, and without a doubt the biggest in North America.

But with any merger, someone has to stay while another has to go. Who will make the final cut? Will Chrysler’s 300 be branded a GM product, or the Jeep Wrangler make an appearance fighting against LaBeef and Megan Fox in a third Transformers film (the movies feature a variety of GM vehicles).

Unfortunately, with the stock market plummeting off the charts like lemmings over a cliff any such merger talks have been put on hold. GM is hemorrhaging approximately $1 Billion dollars a month, which Cerberus is dealing with a hurting Chrysler LLC. So, for now at least, we can only dream of a world where a Dodge Viper – HUMMER edition comes to life.

In today’s economy, if you’re going to buy a truck you might as well go all out. Gas prices may decrease, cost of living rates may fall – or not. But you need a vehicle with one rugged engine and towing capacity to boot. But maybe you’re not a fan of many American made pickup trucks. In the past we at Chryslerpedia would just say “your loss.” Today, all that is going to change. This week Chrysler sent out a press release announcing their new powerful partnership with Nissan.

Starting in 2009 Chrysler LLC and Nissan Motor Co. will team up for future productions of the Nissan Titan. So, if you’re not into the new Dodge Ram 1500 fear not, truck buyers will be able to get themselves into a Chrysler-Dodge HEMI powered Titan by next decade. Along with a HEMI, Chrysler will supply the framework for Titan as well, continuing through 2011 – which is when North American truck fans will be able to purchase a Chry-ssan Titan. Wait, you’re not a truck fan but one of those small-car niche market people? You too will benefit from this foreign & domestic partnership – Nissan will manufacture a Chrysler fuel-efficient compact car, based on Chrysler concept models. While the Titan is being produced in North America, Chry-ssan’s green vehicle will be produced at Nissan’s Japanese plant.

Barack Obama, who recently slapped the hands of Detroit manufacturers for continuing to design and build cars Americans WANT to buy, has a secret. But first, let’s review his comments about the American automakers:

“For years, while foreign competitors were investing in more fuel-efficient technology for their vehicles, American automakers were spending their time investing in bigger, faster cars,”

Obama also criticized US manufacturers for not developing hybrid technology like Toyota and Honda have done. OK – you got us Barack. We agree, and we’re glad to see you placing the blame on the automakers instead of the consumer.

So here’s BO’s secret…he owns a HEMI-powered V8 Chrysler 300C. Obama didn’t have any option but to buy that big 5.7-liter engine from Chrysler…he just had to.
