Chrysler’s Adorable EV Peapod Concept!
Chrysler’s addition to the CDJ hybrid electric line up is their EV GEM (Global Electric Motorcars) Peapod! Well, actually, Chrysler kind of rebranded the GEM vehicle, but we’ll forgive them. I mean, how can you stay mad at something that adorable?! It may catch more than one glimpse on the road, and we swear this isn’t some picture stolen from Lolcats. It’s a real life concept, soon to be a true electric, four-passenger, 25 MPH, 30-mile-range automobile.

According to the press release: The user-friendly mood of the vehicle, named the GEM Peapod, is enhanced with the newly designed center console that will offer iPod integration, as well as hands-free operation of the customer’s iPhone. Other innovations include ergonomic, supportive, mesh seating, which enables air circulation for comfort and uses eco-friendly recycled and recyclable materials.

GEM, possibly in cooperation with Chrysler, has plans to market a new light-duty, battery electric commercial truck and a larger city electric SUV, with greater range. These vehicles are scheduled to begin production before 2010.

Chrysler showed the Peapod production model off at the company’s headquarters on Sept. 23. Then it’s off to the assembly plant, where LolPeapod is scheduled for production in 2009.
