Chrysler Sees Major Increase in Overseas Sales

The Middle East, Northen Africa, and other emerging markets have contributed to a 15% increase in Chrysler’s sales outside of North America. Selling a total of 238,218 vehicles in 2007, the company saw a 3% decrease in the US, while sales in Canada were up 6%. Chrysler holds a small share of the global auto market when compared to other North America automakers such as General Motors which sold over 5 million vehicles abroad in 2007. The company has begun to recognize the importance of entering the global market in order to grow and stay competitive. Recently, Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn was reported saying that Nissan and Chrysler were talks regarding a potential production partnership. This may be a major stepping stone for the Detroit automaker as it attempts to gain a larger portion of the global market.
