Chrysler 200 Needs More Hype

After its Super Bowl ad, does the Chrysler 200 need more hype? Some say yes. Even Eminem and Detroit couldn’t help out The 200, of course the car has barely seen dealership lots yet.

Sales of Chrysler 200 were a modest 2,319 in Feb 2011. In the same month, 3,160 of the updated Chrysler Sebring were sold – and not just on car rental lots. Chrysler defended the performance of the 200: “It’s still in ramp-up mode, and we’ll continue to build volumes over this month and the next several months,” Chrysler spokesman Ralph Kisiel said.

Chrysler is trying to reduce sales of vehicles to rental agencies, corporate and government fleets. These accounted for 27% of its 2010 sales, but retail sales to consumers generate larger profits.
